u.P.V.C. DOOR & LOCK REPAIRS

Contrary to many advertising claims these doors are not maintenance free.Their locking mechanisms should be lubricated twice yearly and if they then become stiff will need their keeps on the frame adjusting.Failure to do so causes lifting the handles to become harder and harder, this in turn puts more strain on the gearbox in the middle of the door and sooner or later an expensive breakage will occur.

If the door panel has not been packed correctly, the lock side will drop, resulting in adjustments needing to be made to the keeps on the frame. If this dropping is acute the door panel will need to be re-packed - a process known as 'Toe & Heeling'.
As local locksmiths we are able to repair and replace a lot of parts on uPVC doors. These include :-

Euro Cylinders - the part the key goes into that actually locks the door. You may want to change these when they become worn ,you move into a new home or keys are lost/stolen.

Handles - these operate the mechanism within the gearbox that moves the various locking points into position. Badly adjusted doors make this harder to achieve and put extra strain on the handles, leading to excessive wear and eventual breakage.

Gearboxes and MPLs - the complete Multi Point Locking Strips. These are the 'engine room' of the door and need to operate smoothly for your long term security and peace of mind. Although there are hundreds of different types fitted to doors we are able to identify and source replacements that we do not have in stock for next day delivery.
Union Euro Cylinder - out with the old and in with the new.

Broken uPVC Door Gearbox
This photograph clearly shows what damage can be done when a door is incorrectly adjusted. This has caused the mechanism to become stiff and put excessive strain on the toothed bar to the left of the cog wheel (top left), stripping the teeth and ruining the gearbox.
